It’s curious that, since relegation for the Bulls was confirmed for the first time in over 40 years, there has been a noticeable improvement in the mood around the club.
Of course, sensational wins against high-flying Wigan, Hull and our great rivals Leeds have helped this mood, but it appears to be something that runs considerably deeper. Perhaps it’s that the worst (in a sense) has happened, and people now realise that life will go on for the Bulls, albeit outside Super League for a time. However, more likely it’s because we can all see positive things starting to happen, and the club taking sensible steps in undoubtedly the right direction.
“We welcome all the new signings and re-signings that are taking place,” said BullBuilder chairman Mike Farren, “but we are particularly pleased to see Bulls’ Academy products, such as Danny Addy, Tom Olbison and Adam O’Brien, committing to the club that nurtured them. However, we need to ensure that the production line of young players continues to come through the Academy.”
Another highly promising sign was the bumper attendance at the recent club event at Cedar Court. The fact that so many people – arguably more than the average crowd of some of the teams we’ll be playing next year – were willing to turn out on a midweek evening in the summer holidays, speaks volumes for the depth of the Bulls’ support.
Several members of the BullBuilder committee pitched in to help on the night, and from our point of view, the most gratifying aspect was the emphasis on support for the Academy.
Farren said, “The re-launched lottery is the club’s method of generating funds for the Academy, and BullBuilder is right behind the Big One. However, BullBuilder also offers fans their own way to support the Academy, get involved and make a real difference to what we hope will be an exciting new era at the club.”
