BullBuilder took time out last week to meet up with U19s player of the year Liam Kirk and U16 player of the year Vytas Vazrys who gave us their thoughts.
Vytas is a backrower from Hunslet Warriors who has starred for the U16s this year and earned a U19 contract. He commented: “It’s an honour to have won this award and a great recognition of the effort I have put into being where I am now. I’d like to thank all the coaching staff that have helped me get through the tough times that I had for the past year and also for making me the player I am today. I would also like to thank my Mum for waking me up at 5 o’clock in the morning and running me around and her support.”
Looking back over the season Vytas said “The highlight of the season is definitely the amount of team work that the boys have put in. Next season I’ll be aiming to play as many games in the Academy and hopefully push into making my debut for the first team.
Liam Kirk won the Rookie of the year award in 2015 and has progressed now to the fringes of the first team and made his debut at Workington some weeks ago. A prop from Drighlinton Liam said “It’s a big honour, been a team effort this year not just down to an individual. We are a very close team and I think that this year has brought us together even stronger and that has shown in the team performances this season. I’d like to thank John Bastian, Matt Diskin, Team Mates, Family and BullBuilder for their support and commitment to the Under 19’s
My highlight was this year was the Wigan game in April, we were down on numbers and we had a young side out playing an experienced team. It was a tough game but our enthusiasm, energy and team work resulted in a 28 -18 win. Next year I hope to be playing in the Bulls first team.
